A missing tastebud

Where’s the Bitter?

I’ve received complaints recently that Bitter Press has lost it’s edge.  And that I’ve been using substandard flash-based image editing software that out of nowhere branded my creation.

So to all the haters out there hating on me for not hating, I offer this reply:

I just don’t have the energy to be mad at things anymore.  Back when I was just a lowly reviewer for Punknews.org, I used to be abrasive and sort of an asshole in my review.  The underlying opinion: if you release a sub-par album, fuck you asshole.  But that’s the easy road.  Talking shit is like allowing yourself to urinate while sleeping.  Sure it saved you some effort, but any dignified human would rather show some restraint before haulin’ off and whizzing the bed.

Maybe I’m just getting old.  Or maybe I’m trying to blend in with the average entertainment tastes of Middle America.  I’ve sat through some CBS comedies of late that used to make me want to gouge my eyes out.  Now I just shrug it off, and wait for a joke that might make me laugh.  And if millions of Americans find joy in Charlie Sheen making fat jokes about a twelve year old boy on television, bless ‘em.  Lord knows we got to pick on somebody, and not all of us have basic cable and get to watch Rock of Love Bus with Bret Michaels.

Aside from Li’l Wayne, there aren’t really any celebrity figures, musicians, actors or actresses that cause strife in my life.  Maybe I should reach out and try and tap Li’l Wayne for some more anger and shouting.  Whatever brings back the Greatest Hits of Bitter Press.  Truth be told, it just doesn’t interest me anymore.

Does that say something good about me?  That I’m looking for the good in everybody?  I mean, Dane Cook is popular because he’s hard working, kind of funny, and has a lot of charisma.  And I don’t care if this does get me kicked out of the hipster club: I have laughed at Dane Cook’s comedy material before.  I’m not going to deny it.

I enjoy Family Guy as well.  Sure, the jokes don’t hold up as well as The Simpsons, but it’ll make me laugh.
Earlier today, I was thinking about the first incarnation of Bitter Press as a blogspot blog, and how far this little website has come.  It has indirectly become a money making venture (it landed me a lucrative freelance gig), and has allowed me to publish some excellent short fiction from my friends and acquaintances, all of whom are really talented.

I know what most of you are thinking now: quit while you’re ahead.  And that’s exactly why I’m just going to keep on rolling with this thing until I run it into the ground.  Now who’s with me?  Let’s find that animated gif again where the dog throws up after nailing that other dog.
